Hello:
Today I was at the oncologist for some blood work, and was asked to review and comment on a new advertising campaign sponsored by the Susan G. Komen For The Cure Foundation. The ad features a woman wearing a shirt with some very strong language on it depicting how some women feel about fighting breast cancer. The campaign has spurred some controversy.
One side feels it is too aggressive and violent, and others feel it represents the attitude one needs to fight breast cancer.
KARE 11 News was at the Breast Center getting comments from Health Care Providers and some patients, including me, on the topic. J.R. and I actually saw the ad in a magazine on Tuesday and thought the ad was very good.

I think I can think of some other words for the shirt! I believe the moral preachers should get off there soap box and use their energy and finances for something good. That good would be the fight against breast cancer. They should worry more about there own rather than worry about my son and daughter. My kids "WILL" know and understand the meaning of the words!
Cancer is: abusive,evil,intrusive,never asks permission to enter,it attacks with full force, it kills with no remorse. The treatment to deal with the intitial attack of cancer: is, painful, poisonous,degrading...I am sure the list can be added to. If this was a human doing this to me,my family or my friends, I believe, I would have the same tendency to do exactly what the shirt is saying to do to cancer. Now I agree, an eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth and treating violence with violence is not in mine or most of our, playbooks. In this case it should be looked upon as a positive and not a negative. This is a death penalty against cancer, not a human.I have had family and friends suffer through treatment and survive. I have also lost friends to cancer. Please, tell me why it is wrong, to go at it with this approach. Mike Edberg

Third is that it is solely hereditary
The next myth associated with breast cancer is downright ridiculous. Would you believe, that in this day and age, some individuals still think that breast cancer is contagious?
Conversely, some individuals foolishly believe that breast size determines whether or not one gets cancer.
Finally, another myth that is associated with this disease is that it only affects older people. This is not so. Although the chance of getting breast cancer increases with age, women as young as 18 have been diagnosed with the disease.
